Summary
Therapy Intensive Option 1: Developmental Coordination Disorder: Evidence-based Assessment and Interventions Is it difficult for your pediatric clients to learn basic motor skills despite having no known diagnosis? Can they learn motor skills with you, but cannot apply the skills in the real world? Learn to identify children with probable Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), and provide them with proven therapy interventions, via virtual or in-person services! Patti will start this workshop by teaching you how to use the right assessment tools to satisfy the 4 Criteria set by the DSM-5 for a diagnosis of DCD. She will then discuss important research on various interventions for DCD, so you can use what works, and avoid what do not! You will immerse yourself in Patti's treatment sessions via case studies and videos, as she demonstrates 6 evidence-based strategies that you can incorporate in your interventions right away…whether you work in a school, at home or in a clinic. Finally, you will learn decision-making algorithms that Patti uses to differentiate DCD from co-morbid or similar conditions...such as sensory processing difficulties (SPD) , attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and joint hypermobility. She will utilize multiple case studies to demonstrate her clinical reasoning process, as the right diagnosis is critical to children’s success! You will leave the course with practical tools and strategies that you can use the very next day you return to work!

Therapy Intensive Option 2: Your Must-Have Motor Kit: Promoting Movement and Motor Skills in Classrooms with Easy to Collect and Easy-to-Carry Materials Looking for more creative strategies to get more movement and motor skills practice for your pediatric clients? Join Amy in “Your Must-Have Motor Kit” and learn 60+ creative activity ideas using easy-to-collect and -carry materials. Amy will start the day by sharing research on how movement throughout the school day benefits academic performance and behavior. She summarizes this into an Advocacy Form that you can share with teachers, colleagues, and school administrators to get buy-in for more movement throughout the day. She will then walk you through the creation of your own Must-Have Motor Kit, with core materials, and additional enhancements. These materials include everyday materials and recyclables. Most of the day will then be spent moving around as Amy models and you practice lots of ideas to utilize these materials to embed movement and motor skills into different classes, such as Circle Time, Math, Science, and English Language Arts. In addition, you will learn to connect your student’s IEP goals with motor skills that they can practice in the classroom. You will also practice how you can turn typical classroom books or stories into another movement opportunity. Bring a couple of recyclables or other everyday materials to the course and create new activities with assistance from Amy and your colleagues. Let’s get moving with Your Must-Have Motor Kit! Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to 1. Identify 2 benefits of movement across the International Classification of Function (ICF) model 2.
