IMPORTANT: This series is intended for educators in 4th grade or higher.
Aspire: Literacy for Older Students is a rigorous learning experience for educators 4th grade and up. Combining the power of flexible, personalized asynchronous learning, and in-person processing and practicing opportunities, Aspire: Literacy for Older Students aims to answer the question, "What does the science of reading look like for older students?" Participants will be engaged in 3 separate modules to uncover that answer.
Specifically, this series focuses on bolstering educators' knowledge and skills regarding the following pillars for reading comprehension: 1) Word Recognition; 2) Language Comprehension; and 3) Reading Comprehension.
DELIVERY: This multi-day professional learning opportunity will be offered as a combination of:
- Asynchronous online learning with a minimum of 20 1-hour long courses* PLUS
- 1 full-day face-to-face session AND
- 1 1-hour synchronous virtual PLC.
*Participants are required to complete at least 20 courses (2 prerequisite plus 6 in each of the 3 literacy domains), but will have access to all 31 courses to complete if they wish. For a full list of the courses accessible to participants, please use this link.
REQUIREMENTS: 20 total courses
- Introductory Prerequisites: 2 Courses
- Word Recognition: Fluency: The Bridge to Comprehension + 5 Courses (6 out of 9 Total)
- Language Comprehension: Enhancing Academic Language + 5 Courses (6 out of 9 Total)
- Reading Comprehension & Writing: Factors that Contribute to Deep Comprehension + 5 Courses (6 out of 9 Total)
