Description

This series requires participants to attend Session 1 (in-person or online/asynchronous math summit) and Sessions 2 & 3 (two-day, in-person unit planning mastery workshop) while completing activities in a complementary asynchronous online course.  The in-person workshops have options for participants to attend in either Bismarck or Fargo.  A description of each element of this series is provided after the required resource listing below:

*****REQUIRED RESOURCE:  This series requires participants to purchase the book - Mathematics Unit Planning in a PLC at Work - prior to the start of the professional learning series.  This is NOT included in your registration fee.  Please bring this resource to all face-to-face professional learning sessions.  The book is available for purchase using the link below.  Please purchase the book that best corresponds to the grade level(s) you serve.

SESSION 1 - Elevating Math Education: Strategies for Success Summit

Options: Bismarck - May 1st; Online/asynchronous

Whether you're in the East or West, gear up for an engaging experience that will empower you with the tools and insights to inspire a love for math in your classroom. SESSIONS 2 & 3 - Crafting Excellence: Unit Planning Mastery Workshop

Options: Fargo - June 17th-18th; Bismarck - June 19th-20th

Enhance your math instruction and planning with our Unit Planning Mastery workshop, specifically designed for math educators striving for the highest standards of excellence. Over the course of two days, engage in deep dives into strategic unit planning and constructing a year-long proficiency calendar, while also developing effective assessment tools, all aligned to the new North Dakota math standards. These standards highlight crucial math attributes aimed at solving real-world problems and boosting reasoning skills, placing a significant emphasis on establishing strong numeracy foundations for sophisticated problem-solving abilities. Participants will conclude the workshop having mapped out their first unit plan and equipped with the expertise to sustain effective planning throughout the academic year, ensuring a transformative impact on their teaching approach and student outcomes.

ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS COURSE

Complete as you go, as it complements the content provided during each of the face-to-face learning sessions.

To enhance and support your learning journey, we’re introducing an asynchronous online course. This custom course is built to complement both the kickoff in May and the unit planning workshop in June, providing an engaging repository of resources. Designed with the flexibility to fit into your schedule, this course includes preparation materials for the June session and extends its support beyond, with a focus on the development of assessment tasks directly aligned with unit plans. This course ensures that you will not only gain immediate insights and strategies from the workshops but also receive ongoing support to implement these strategies effectively, thereby maximizing the impact on teaching practices and student learning outcomes.

PRESENTER: 

AUDIENCE: Primarily intended for K-12 Math Educators; additional roles include Instructional Coaches; Curriculum Directors; Title I Teachers; Administrators

DELIVERY: This series will be delivered as a combination of 1 full-day math summit, a 2-day in-person workshop on unit planning mastery, and completing additional work in an asynchronous, online course.  Face-to-face learning opportunities will be offered in Bismarck and Fargo locations.

CREDIT: 

  • 1 graduate credit will be available following participation in the May & June workshops.  
  • 2 graduate credits will be available following participation in the May & June workshops AND completion of extra assignments in the online course in addition to what is expected within the series (total online coursework including the additional assignments is approximately 10 hours).
